I am the king of sublimation.

Where would I be today without it? Probably well sexed and lazy....

Much has changed since I last seriously posted here, and I am just now exiting an all consuming whirlwind of activity.

Around the beginning of the year, I gratefully accepted an offer for a second job as an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University to teach 3D animation and 3D painting. Being a professor has been one of the most rewarding things I have done with my life. It's one thing to imbue the information, but to inspire the students get excited and express themselves.....that is the place! I love it, I have been getting great reviews, and the administration would like me to teach twice as many units in the fall semester. :]

The marketing job has been consuming as well. The NAB2007 conference just concluded last week. For the last month my job has been wrapped around preparations for this mammoth event. NAB is a conference that typically draws about 200,000 people and is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center (one of the largest in the world.) This usually means working 12 hour days for nearly a week and a half and staying up to party until anywhere between 11:30pm and 3:30am. It's hard, exhausting, and oftentimes fantastic.

One fun thing I did in Vegas was attend a VIP wine tasting event. I sampled $120+ dollar bottles of wine and enjoyed some very charming dialog with colleagues and contacts on the streets of New York.
I met the gents that did the Superbowl Doritos commercial and chatted with them quite sometime. Apparently they used our software to produce the doritos chips. Very nice guys - and I was surprised to find that they were each only about 21 years old.

Every time I visit Vegas I am in awe that the place even exists. Its monuments dwarf the ancient wonders. It is paradoxically fun and sad. There is much to do there but, something else is always mixed in - as if the dry air is lightly haunted by the lives destroyed.

Now I find myself at the other end of a time tunnel, just catching my breath and plotting my next move. In one sense everything is going unbelievablely well, but there is also something else. People are moving around - everything is changing so quickly. Life seems shorter somehow. More fleeting. Meanwhile, my life is tabula rasa - and there is an overwhelming sense that now, more than ever before, I must seize hold and carve the life I want to live and offer what I can to this swiftly tilting planet.

In a Carosel of Lights

round and round

again and again

its hard to find

the begining of the next

when it never stops

when it is timeless

when its all deja vu

and those cosmic gears

let me tell ya

they never stop turning

the laughter

the smiles

the fears

the mirrors

the music

the lights

the youthful aprehension

the stardust and snowflakes

so clearly

they all blur

aboard this carosel

and it just keeps turning

and churning

forever.

St Patrick's Prayer

(an unfinished work inspired by this prayer)

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through the belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension,
Through the strength of his descent for the judgment of Doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In predictions of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.
